In this blog post, I want to share my personal journey of discovering the importance of personal space and comfort during prayer, pranayama, chanting, or meditation. Over the years, I have developed a routine of spending time alone each day, connecting within. In this process, I have created a special seat called the Sukhasana, designed to enhance the experience of these practices. Let's explore the story behind its creation and the elements that make it unique.

Creating the Perfect Seat:

As I delved deeper into my practices, I felt the need for a dedicated seat that would offer both comfort and proper posture. Inspired by this vision, I sketched various designs and made improvements to enhance the ergonomics. Eventually, I settled on a prototype that combined back support, a comfortable seat base, and armrests to create a personal space within the seat.

The Birth of the Sukhasana:

The initial design, named 'The Red Yogi,' evolved into what I now call the 'Sukhasana.' This name, derived from the Sanskrit word for "easy pose," perfectly embodies the comfort and serenity this seat provides. After testing the seat with friends who regularly practice meditation, I incorporated the valuable feedback into the final design.

Choosing the Right Colours:

To enhance the aesthetics and align with the philosophy of yoga, I explored different colour options for the seat's upholstery. Lavender and purple, representing the upper chakras, were suggested by a colleague who practices meditation. However, I also understand the personal preferences of customers, and some may prefer cooler shades or the auspicious colour red as per Indian traditions. Hence, the choice of colour is customisable, either for aesthetic reasons or to align with the symbolism of the chakras.

Symbolism and Elements:

To further infuse the seat with symbolic representations of yoga and meditation, I decided to incorporate elements made of pure copper. Initially, I tried wooden and stainless steel designs, but eventually settled on copper as it embodies healing properties and balances spiritual and material aspects. A Sahasrara Chakra design, representing the crown chakra, was embedded in the seat. Copper coins on the legs and a tiny golden serpent embroidered on the cushion added to the seat's aesthetics.

The Sukhasana seat is designed with both comfort and durability in mind. It can support weights over 100 kg and accommodate sizes ranging from small to extra-large. The folded leg position provides optimal comfort, and individuals with knee issues can also use it in a regular sitting position. The seat's design automatically aligns the spine in an erect posture without discomfort, while the added lumbar support cushion ensures optimal back support. Teak wood legs and high-density foam contribute to its sturdiness and comfort.
